Free Public Toilet near Odeonsplatz and Hofgarten in Munich
Location and Access
This public restroom is located near Odeonsplatz, close to the entrance of Hofgarten and Residenz München. The entrance is not inside the subway station. I had to look for the small 00 sign near the garden wall and then walk down the stairs. From the Café Tambosi side, it is easier to find if you look toward the right side of the Hofgarten entrance. The signage is not very obvious, so it is easy to miss on the first try.
Waiting Time and Cost
When I visited, there was no waiting time. I could use it right away. The restroom was free, and there was no need to pay by coin, card, or machine. In central Munich, a free public restroom is quite useful, especially around a busy area like Odeonsplatz.
Cleanliness and Smell
The restroom was usable for a free public facility. It was not spotless, but it had toilet paper and the basic conditions were acceptable. The smell was the main downside. It was noticeable as soon as I went down the stairs, and there was still an unpleasant odor inside. Still, for a quick emergency stop, it did the job.
Door Lock and Facilities
The stall I used closed properly, and the lock worked without any issue. I did not see any broken-door notice or out-of-order sign during my visit. However, access is only by stairs, so it is not convenient for wheelchairs, strollers, or heavy luggage. I did not see an elevator or escalator for this restroom.
Handwashing Area
The handwashing area had running water and soap. Toilet paper was also available. The sink area was simple and not especially polished, but it had what I needed after using the restroom.
