shop & fresh WC Stachus Review
Location near Karlsplatz
The shop & fresh WC Stachus was located in a very central part of Munich, close to Karlsplatz, also known as Stachus. From street level, Karlstor and the Stachus square were the easiest landmarks to use. The toilet was not directly on the surface level. I had to go down into the underground shopping passage connected to the S-Bahn and U-Bahn area. It was located deeper underground, in a long hallway near a wide staircase with several escalators.
Waiting time and payment
When I used it, there was no long line, so the waiting time was short. It was a paid toilet, so I had to pay before entering through the gate. After the renovation, the fee was 1.50 euros. Older reviews mentioned 1 euro, but the recent price appeared to be higher. There was also a notice asking visitors to pay the exact amount. Since several users mentioned problems with card or mobile payment, carrying coins is the safer option.
Cleanliness inside
During my visit, the inside looked much more modern than many older reviews suggested. After renovation, the toilet had a grey stone-style finish and ceramic bowls, which made it feel newer and cleaner than before. The stall I used was usable, and the general condition was acceptable for a public paid toilet in a busy station area. However, older reviews repeatedly mentioned dirt, blocked toilets, missing paper, and poor maintenance, so the condition may depend heavily on the time of visit.

Smell and surroundings
The underground passage leading toward the toilet had a slightly unpleasant smell. Older users often mentioned a strong urine smell around this area, and that matched the approach more than the inside of the toilet. Inside the facility, the smell was not as bad during my visit. Since this is a very busy location near Stachus, the condition can change depending on the hour and crowd level.
Door lock and broken facilities
The stall I used closed properly and the lock worked. The toilet and water also functioned normally. Still, older reviews mentioned broken payment terminals, blocked toilets, out-of-order stalls, and access problems. A recent review also mentioned an issue with the accessible toilet lock, so visitors using a wheelchair or stroller should check the entrance before paying.

Handwashing area
The handwashing area was usable when I visited. The sink and water worked, and I was able to wash my hands without trouble. That said, older reviews mentioned empty towel dispensers, missing soap, clogged sinks, and a lack of paper. For a paid toilet, I expected a more consistently reliable setup. Bringing tissues or hand sanitizer is a good idea.

Recent review notes
This review is mainly written from my own visit, but recent changes were also checked through user reviews left on this site. Recent comments suggest that the toilet became cleaner and more modern after renovation. At the same time, one recent user said it was already closed around 10 p.m., even though the listed closing time was later. If you plan to visit late in the evening, it would be better not to rely completely on the posted hours.
Overall satisfaction
If you are near Stachus, Karlstor, or the underground station area and urgently need a toilet, this one can be useful. Its biggest advantage is the central location. The downsides are the paid entrance, possible payment issues, and the long history of poor reviews before renovation. I would use it again during the day with coins ready, but I would not choose it if a cleaner and more reliable option was nearby. The actual condition on site may differ depending on the time of visit.
