Public Toilet near Mathilde Jacob in Berlin Review

Location and Access

I used this Wall City Toilette in Berlin. The location is convenient, especially because there is a playground nearby. That makes it useful for people walking through the area, families with children, or anyone who suddenly needs a toilet while outside.

Waiting Time

There was almost no waiting time when I arrived. I could go straight to the entrance and check whether the toilet was working. That check felt necessary because this toilet seems to have a history of being out of service from time to time.

Cost and Payment

During my visit, it appeared to be free to use, so I did not have to pay. However, similar City Toilets sometimes cost 0.50 euros and may only accept contactless payment, so it is better to check the payment display before relying on it.

Cleanliness

The cleanliness was inconsistent. Some parts looked surprisingly acceptable, but the overall condition was not very reassuring. Since the toilet is located next to a playground, I expected better maintenance. I would not describe it as a clean and family-friendly toilet.

Smell and Noise

The smell was noticeable. It was not the worst public toilet smell, but it still had that unpleasant, damp restroom odor. Another issue was the flushing system, which was quite loud. I can understand why people living nearby might find it annoying, especially at night.

Door and Malfunctions

The door worked when I checked it, but I did not fully trust the facility. There are too many signs that it may be out of order at times. If I were in a real emergency, I would not want to depend on this toilet without checking first.

Handwashing Area

There was a handwashing area with running water, which was a positive point. Still, the sink area felt basic rather than properly clean. It was enough to wash my hands, but it did not feel especially well maintained.

Satisfaction and Reuse

This toilet can be useful because of its location and the possibility of free use. If someone urgently needs a restroom nearby, it can be a real help. However, because of the mixed cleanliness, smell, loud flushing system, and uncertain reliability, I would only use it again if I had no better option nearby.
