Public Toilet Review at Jungfernstieg Station Hamburg

Location Guide

This public toilet is located on the intermediate level of Jungfernstieg station in central Hamburg. It is easy to reach from the Binnenalster side, Europa Passage, Rathaus, and the shopping streets around Mönckebergstraße. After going down into the station from Jungfernstieg, I found it on the left side near the stair area.

Waiting Time

I used it on a Saturday morning and there was no line. I was able to enter right away without waiting. Since Jungfernstieg is a busy station, it may be more crowded at other times, but during my visit the process was quick and simple.

Cost and Payment

The toilet cost 50 cents to use. Entry was through a turnstile, and payment was made with coins. I could not use card payment there. This is the biggest inconvenience, especially for visitors who do not carry cash. Recent reviews left on this site also mention that there is no card terminal, so it is better to prepare a 50-cent coin before visiting.

Cleanliness and Smell

The women’s toilet was very clean during my visit. The floor was in good condition, the stalls were usable, and there was no strong unpleasant smell. For a toilet inside a transit station, the cleanliness was better than I expected. A service team was also present, and the place was being maintained.

Door Lock and Facilities

The stall door locked properly when I used it. The turnstile also worked normally, and I did not experience any broken facilities during my visit. Some older reviews on this site mentioned issues with men’s urinals or towel dispensers, so the current on-site condition may vary depending on the time of visit.

Handwashing Area

The handwashing area was usable and reasonably clean. The water worked properly, and the sink area was not messy when I visited. During busy hours it may get wetter or more crowded, but at the time of my visit it was comfortable enough to use.

Overall Satisfaction

The need for a 50-cent coin is inconvenient, and the lack of card payment is a clear downside. Still, the toilet was clean, easy to find, and useful in a very central location. I would use it again if I had coins with me. For late-night visits, it is worth noting that some reviews mention opening hours only until 22:30, so availability may differ depending on the time.
